bone marrow registry

It is also a commitment to take the next step if a patient needs you to donate your cells for a life-saving bone marrow transplant.

Joining the registry requires a sample of cells, usually collected by swabbing the inside of your cheek. Samples taken are used to compare specific protein markers, known as human leukocyte antigens (HLA) with HLA markers of patients who need a bone marrow transplant.
mandi's foundation
Named after women’s ice hockey player Mandi Schwartz (1988-2011), The Mandi Schwartz Foundation seeks to honor her memory by helping others in her name.

Mandi Schwartz inspired countless people during her battle with cancer, which lasted from 2008 until 2011. A women's ice hockey player from Wilcox, Sask., Mandi attended Athol Murray College of Notre Dame and Yale University. Bone marrow registration donor drives are held annually in Mandi's name at Notre Dame, Yale, NHL hockey games, and elsewhere. To date, over 15,000 people have been added to registries in Canada and the U.S. and over 150 matches have been found from people who signed up at Mandi's registry events.
